The Growth Clarity Guide
A structured way to identify what is really holding growth back before adding more activity.
When growth slows, the instinct is to do more: more posts, more ads, a new website. But adding activity on top of an unclear problem usually just adds cost. This guide helps you find where growth is really getting stuck, so you know what to fix first.
Step 1: Start with four numbers
You don't need a dashboard. Rough figures are fine.
- How many new enquiries do you get in a typical month?
- How many of those become clients?
- What is a new client worth to you, on average?
- How many clients come back or refer someone else?
Step 2: Find where it's leaking
Growth usually gets stuck in one of five places. Be honest as you answer each question.
- Clarity: After one minute on your website, could a stranger explain what you do, who it’s for and why they should choose you?
- Visibility: Are the right people finding you when they search, or do you rely mostly on referrals?
- Conversion: When people visit your website, do they get in touch?
- Follow-up: When people enquire, how quickly and how well do you respond? How many go quiet?
- Retention: Do clients stay, come back and recommend you?
Your numbers from step 1 will point the way:
- Few enquiries usually means a clarity, visibility or conversion problem.
- Plenty of enquiries but few new clients points to follow-up.
- Good clients who don’t come back point to retention.
Step 3: Pick one thing
Choose the biggest leak, not the one that feels most urgent. Then finish this sentence:
“Our growth is being held back by ______, and we’ll know it’s fixed when ______.”
Step 4: Only then choose the activity
Now you can test any idea, whether it's SEO, a new website or a campaign, with one question: does this fix the thing we wrote down? If it doesn't, it can wait.
